DARK SKY AT CHERRY SPRINGS STATE PARK

Named as its first Dark Sky by DCNR in 2000, the views of the galaxy in the night sky at Cherry Springs State Park are a "must-see" when visiting Potter County

Coudersport Ice Mine

The Ice Mine: an accidental discovery? In 1894, adventurer Billy O’Neil was exploring Ice Mountain, spurred on by the legend of a silver mine. But instead of the glittering silver he hoped for, he found layers and layers of ice - a shaft 10 feet long, 8 feet wide, and over 30 feet deep.​

Nestled in a valley in Austin, PA, along the winding stream of Freeman Run, is the ruins of the Bayless Paper Mill - known today as the Austin Dam. In 1911, the dam broke and water flooded much of the town of Austin claiming over 78 lives. The Austin Dam Memorial park is a beautiful natural park that honors an important history.

PA Grand Canyon

On the east rim of the canyon, the 585-acre Leonard Harrison State Park has modern facilities, a new visitor center, and the most famous scenic views of the canyon. For the adventurer, a trail, aptly named "the Turkey Path" traverses the side of the canyon to rail trail below. Going down may be fun, but remember. . .you have to hike back up!

ATV & UTV Riding

Potter and Tioga Counties are part of the Northcentral Regional ATV Trail, providing a unique opportunity for long-distance ATV riding on designated State Forest Trails & Roads, Municipal roads, and specific State Roads connecting riders though a scenic route connecting riders to fuel, restaurants, and local attractions.

The Susquehannock Trail system is comprised of 43 acres and is opened seasonally.

Fishing

Pine Creek and its tributaries are well known for trout and bass fishing and are visited by anglers year round. Certain sections of Pine Creek are stocked ahead of the Spring fishing season each year!

In addition to Pine Creek, you can cast your line in many state parks in Potter and Tioga County as well.

Biking

Whether you seek the thrills of downhill trail riding or a more casual riding experience, the Pine Creek Valley has a trail for your riding speed and experience. The Green Monter Trail System in Asaph offers miles of single track trails. The Pine Creek Rail Trail is a scenic gravel trail through the PA Grand Canyon suitable for all riders and ability levels.

Kayaking & Canoeing

Spring white water rafting in Pine Creek is an exhilarating experience. Guided tours are provided by Pine Creek Outfitters located in Ansonia, PA. If whitewater is not your thing, local lakes offer a more casual kayaking experience.

As summer brings on the heat, cool off with a leisurely tube ride. Tubes can be rented at Pine Creek Outfitters.

Skiing

Downhill skiing is available at Ski Sawmill at Oregon Hill. Denton Hill Ski Area is under construction and should be reopen by 2026. The Pine Creek Rail Trail is groomed for cross-country skiing if conditions permit.
